Student organizations at Duke that may help you learn more about careers in the health professions include:

Duke Med MAP: The Duke Medical Mentorship Advisory Program (Duke Med MAP) has generated a database of medical students at Duke School of Medicine and other US medical schools who you can contact for advice and mentoring. The database lists medical students, their undergraduate school, whether they took a gap year and what they did, their medical interests, and other personal information. You can ask questions, for example, about taking gap year(s), interviewing at medical schools, what medical school is like for them, how they prepared and made choices, and what undergraduate experiences were most helpful in their preparations for medical school. You are welcome to contact these medical student mentors at any time. To access a link to the database, go to Duke Med MAP in Box (sign in to your Box account before clicking on the link).

DUKE MEDTOR: Medtor is a free web application which matches pre-medical undergraduate students to mentors in medical school. The Medtor database contains hundreds of medical students who want to guide undergraduate students through the pre-medical path. The web app uses an algorithm that compares relevant information (research interests, hobbies, future plans, etc.) from both pre-med students and mentors to recommend optimal matches to the student. In association with Duke MAP, Medtor wants to promote the mentorship program at Duke and create an efficient way of expanding mentor-mentee relationships. Go to medtor.org to sign up.
