All incoming students are assigned a pre-major, college advisor in August. Advisors may be a faculty or staff member whose role is to:

  • advise you broadly about your academic pathways
  • help you choose courses
  • provide guidance on curricular issues and opportunities
  • connect you with other members of your wider advising network
  • serve as resource for helping you make the best use of all that Duke has to offer

Once you've arrived on campus, you’ll meet your advisor every semester before registration--thought most students also meet with their advisor outside of registration periods. You will work with your college advisor until you declare your major your sophomore year. At that time, you will be assigned an advisor in your major.
