Connect with Health Professions Advising to get your questions answered:

Creating a Prehealth Blueprint-This session is designed for first-year students or students who are new to prehealth at Duke. HPA advisors will discuss common course and experience requirements; expand on the recently updated Core Competencies; help you think about your values and priorities so you can make plans.  We’ll bust some common myths and increase your confidence in making choices that are best for you. Use this session to get a jump start on planning your prehealth journey.  Please join us on September 18 from 6:00-7:00 pm in White Lecture Hall Room 107.

Use these resources:

1. Review the Prepare section of our website as you begin to explore health professions.  Learn about diverse health professions.  Use planning guides like the Prehealth Tips for Fall, Course Planning Worksheets for Trinity and Pratt, and sample schedules to assist you.   
2. Register with HPA to receive announcements and updates.
3. Follow us on Instagram at instagram.com/duke_hpa and review our events page.
4. Have questions, attend a Prehealth Advising Drop-In Session.

Request a prehealth advisor assignment: Submit your Four-Year Planning and Pulse Check forms here.   Your materials will be reviewed and you will receive a confirmation email with your assigned advisor.  Please note: 1:1 advisor appointments require the submission of both Four-Year Course Planning and Pulse Check Forms.

Junior advising focuses on final coursework, timing of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or other exam, the application process, choice of schools, and letters of recommendation. We recommend that you talk with an advisor at least once a year to be sure you are on track and will be ready to apply at the time you wish. This also helps us get to know you better when we write a committee letter on your behalf.  To access advising:

2. Update your Pulse Check Forms.  Please review the materials from the Pulse Check Workshop to assist with completing the form.

The Office of Health Professions Advising provides prehealth advising to Duke alumni who graduated with degrees from Trinity or Pratt within the last five years.  

To access advising:

1. Register with our alumni listserv and follow us on Instagram at instagram.com/duke_hpa.
2. Many of our resources require an active Duke NETID.  If you graduated more than a year ago and are not working at Duke, request an extension of your NETID by completing the NETID Request Form.  Monitor your email and respond to communication from Duke OIT to complete this process.
3. Prehealth Advisor Assignment:
   • If you have worked with our office, please continue to work with your assigned advisor. 
   • If you applied to medical school in summer 2024, please continue to work with your RMA advisor. 
   • If you have not worked with our office previously, please review the Pulse Check Workshop materials and complete a Pulse Check form and submit it here.   Your form will be reviewed and you will receive a confirmation email with your assigned advisor.
