How I’ve made the most of my Duke experience
In my short time here at Duke I've made the most of my time by trying to step outside of my comfort zone and trying new things. I have tried to find community in different places from church groups to ethnic communities. I have also tried to attend activities such as plays, or visit the Nasher Museum of Art. Partaking in these experiences has allowed my to view interesting exhibits that I would not have expected to enjoy, and going to see new plays allows me to not only support my friends who are a part of the cast, but also to enjoy entertainment that I might not be able to experience in the same way if I were not on campus.
What I value
I value my friends and family, throughout my first year here at Duke these two groups have been integral in helping to support and lift me up. I particularly value the friendships that I have developed in the on-campus ministry that I am a part of, Duke Wesley. I value my faith deeply and Duke Wesley gave me a way to express that faith and also brought the opportunity to form close friendships and bonds. Also, although it might sound cliche, I value education. I strive to learn all that I can by taking risks and trying classes or experiences that will push me and help me to become a better person in some small or large way.
Where I see myself after Duke
After Duke I hope to attend medical school. I have also thought about applying for a MD/PhD program, and I am considering that path as a possibility after my undergraduate career. I hope to practice medicine in a big city with a variety of people and situations.
How I like to spend my free time
In my free time, I enjoy typical things like sleeping and hanging out with my friends. Of course, I also enjoy television and Netflix. I love to watch documentaries, and movies and shows based on true stories. I also enjoy watching football during the fall. However, there are some non-television things that I also enjoy such as reading for pleasure. I also like cooking and baking. I have been known to bake several batches of cookies and scones out of simple boredom or curiosity to try something new.
