How I’ve made the most of my Duke experience

At Duke, you're an explorer charting your own path. For me that involved developing close relationships with upperclassmen mentors, not being afraid to put myself in challenging circumstances, and developing my own Duke story rather than pursuing the most successful path. Duke is not defined by just the classroom. Recognizing ideas that interest you and pursuing them to carve out your own path in your four years here is the most important part of the Duke experience. Make an attempt to form lifelong relationships with mentors who can range from professors to upperclassmen. Be brave and focus on learning versus class difficulty. Attend interesting lectures that give you ideas about how to address a need in society. And the best part about Duke is that you can get funding to transform those ideas into reality. While all the dots in your Duke narrative may not connect right now, focus on making connections that lead you from one experience to the next.
