Gerald Wilson, Ph.D.
As an academic dean I support first-year students who live in Basset House and some designated upperclassmen. I am the Appeals Officer in the College and I advise students in the University who are considering careers in law. I teach one lecture course each semester, “American Dreams/ American Realities” and one Capstone seminar, “Leadership in American History.” My office is 04 Allen Building.
I am a Native North Carolinian and have never lived outside of the state. My AB (History) is from Davidson College, BD, Duke Divinity School, MA (Religion) Duke, and Ph.D. (History) from UNC-CH. I have been on the Deans’ Staff at Duke for 51 years. In 2010 I received the Presidential Award from Duke; 2014, the University Medal for Distinguished Service and also was named by the Duke Chronicle as the Best professor and my course “American Dreams/American-Realities” was cited at a “Must-Take” course. My wife Ginger (AB, MAT, Ph.D Duke) and I have one daughter, two grandchildren and one dog.
