Associate Director

As the Associate Director, I work closely with the director in the overall management and direction of the Academic Advising Center and oversee the training and ongoing support of our large and dedicated corps of college advisors. I also advise first and second-year students before they declare an academic major.

Prior to joining the AAC, I worked with Duke Human Resources, where I assisted employees with professional development, skills training and career transitions. I have delivered academic support services to Duke’s psychology graduate students and worked in the Graduate Admissions Office. I have served as a volunteer college advisor at Duke for fourteen years and am a proud recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Advising Award.

I love watching students assimilate new learning and apply it in ways that help them grow intellectually, personally and professionally. I enjoy helping them navigate this rich and complex scholarly community. It’s fun to connect with students from all over the world and I learn so much from listening to their stories and life experiences. I like being a trusted guide and resource to Duke students—someone who will help them explore interests, discover strengths, build confidence and make meaningful choices and contributions. It matters to me that they remember their advising experience as positive and beneficial. Helping students move from dependence to interdependence is rewarding and important work.

Originally from Illinois, I have lived in Durham for a very, very long time. I have a BS in Communications and an MA in Counseling/Student Personnel.
