Gerald L. Wilson


As an academic dean, I support students who live or did live in Giles House, and seniors in Brown residence hall. I am the administrative liaison for History, political science, public policy, and the Policy Journalism & Media Studies certificate. I advise students who want to pursue careers in law, and also teach two courses in history each semester.

About me:

I am a Native North Carolinian and have never lived outside of the state. My AB (History) is from Davidson College, BD, Duke Divinity School, MA (Religion) Duke, and Ph.D. (History) from UNC-CH. I have been on the Deans’ Staff at Duke for 51 years. In 2010 I received the Presidential Award from Duke; 2014, the University Medal for Distinguished Service and also was named by the Duke Chronicle as the Best professor and my course “American Dreams/American-Realities” was cited at a “Must-Take” course. My wife Ginger (AB, MAT, Ph.D Duke) and I have one daughter, two grandchildren and one dog.
