David Rabiner

Portfolio:

As an Academic Dean, I support students who live in the East House and seniors in Brown residence hall. I serve as the director of the Academic Advising Center (advising.duke.edu). The AAC is a student's primary academic home in Trinity College until they declare a major and join a department. I am the academic liaison for dance, psychology, philosophy, the Child Policy Research certificate, and the Marxism and Society certificate. I am also a Senior Lecturing Fellow in the Program in Education here at Duke. My other main responsibilities include serving as a clinical supervisor for graduate students in the PhD program in clinical psychology.

About me:

I grew up in Port Chester NY and graduated from Brown University in 1980.  I moved to Durham in 1983 to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology at Duke. After finishing my doctorate I joined the faculty at UNC-Greensboro for 12 years and returned to Duke in 1999. I served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience for 7 years before joining the Dean’s office several years ago. As a faculty member, my research focused on school violence prevention and a variety of issues related to ADHD. My older daughter graduated from Duke in 2010 so I have been fortunate to experience Duke from the perspective of a graduate student, a faculty member, a dean, and a parent.
